Electrical Automation Engineer


The position:
Initially, the position will hold significant responsibility as part of greenfield project team to assist in the installation, qualification, and startup of a clean pharmaceutical packaging and manufacturing environment. Once the state of the art facility is operational the candidate will serve as the primary automation engineer and support equipment function for manufacturing.


Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred with a minimum of 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in validated pharma packaging or pharma manufacturing environment a plus.  Ability to work with other engineers to both communicate and develop equipment needs. Experience in automated electro mechanical systems and controls including but not limited to the following:

  • PLC code and troubleshooting (Siemens preferred)
  • PROFIBUS / PROFINET
  • Ladder Logic / Statement List Programming
  • WonderWare
  • Databases: Access, SAP, SQL
  • Robots and Robotics (ABB)
  • Networks and switchgear
  • Remote I/O
  • Safety circuits
  • Archestra/ SCADA systems
  • HMI touchscreens systems (SIEMATICS preferred)
  • Motor and VFD (Variable Frequency Drives)
  • Thermocouple and RTD Feedback
  • Visions systems (COGNEX preferred)
  • General sensor technology (SICK, BANNER, KEYENCE, TURCK)
  • Informatics/ Building Control Systems
  • AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles)
  • Software Validation (preferred)

Areas of Responsibility:

 Process Monitoring and Data Review:
Designs and interfaces with data acquisition systems that process equipment data to regularly detect and monitor process variability to identify opportunities for equipment improvement and minimize down time.

Production Support:
Serves as subject matter expert on automated systems and will support both operations and maintenance teams in the trouble shooting and diagnostics of automated equipment.

Design and Continuous Improvement:
Works with area engineers and SMEs on equipment performance and recommends opportunities for improvement. Will manage projects and priorities in line with business needs (Safety, Quality, Time, Budget) and continuously work to improve automated processes through design and implementation.

During the initial training candidate will be required to travel to Europe for extensive process/product training. During the first year of employment travel expectation will be a minimum of 25%-30% international travel. After initial training incumbent can expect travel requirement of approximately 5%-10% yearly.
